We collect information you provide directly: email address, username, and password (stored as a bcrypt hash). If you use Apple or Google sign in, we store the verified email address and provider account identifier needed to keep you signed in. When you use the app we collect location data (with your permission) to show nearby campsites, fuel stations, and community reports. We collect usage data such as trips planned, reports submitted, and credits earned or spent.
Your information is used to: provide and improve the Trailhead service; personalise AI trip plans to your vehicle and preferences; display nearby campsite and hazard data on the map; process credit purchases via Stripe; send service-related communications. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Trailhead requests foreground location access to center the map and find nearby camps and reports. Background location is requested only to enable automatic audio guide narrations as you drive. You can disable location access in your device Settings at any time, which will disable navigation and nearby features.
Credit purchases and subscriptions are processed by Stripe, Apple, or Google Play depending on platform and purchase type. Trailhead never stores your full card number or payment details. Their privacy policies govern payment data handling.
Account data is retained while your account is active. Community reports expire automatically (typically within 24–72 hours). You may request account deletion by contacting us at the address below.
Trailhead uses: Mapbox for maps (see Mapbox Privacy Policy); Anthropic Claude for AI trip planning; ElevenLabs for optional AI voice/audio guide generation; RIDB / Recreation.gov and National Park Service data for campsite and place information; Open-Meteo for weather data; Stripe, Apple, and Google Play for payments.
Trailhead is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
